Flooding...

I didn't participate in this week's challenge at Scrap Tiffany. There was just too much going on around us here in Nashville. The storms and rain that have pounded us the past few days have been unlike anything I've ever seen. I'm sure you have all seen bits and pieces on the news about the flooding here. It's such a sad sight to see on the news the mass devastation in our beautiful city. The historic downtown Nashville has been majorly flooded with many of the waters reaching past the first floor of the buildings. That's one of our favorite places to go so to see some of our favorite stops under water is really sad.

We ventured out today in our own community of Bellevue, which has been one of the hardest hit areas here in middle Tennessee. There are so many places that we could not even reach because of course they are all closed off. Thankfully we are fine. We live on a higher elevation on a mountain so it hasn't affected us and we can still get around to many parts of town but there are so many that run along the river area that are impassable.

Here's a video that someone posted on YouTube of some of the coverage of the flood in Bellevue.....

The area in the video is our local community. It's areas we drive all the time, we have friends who live in those areas and life happens in those areas. It's amazing to see the aerial views and when I first saw them on the news, I gasped, because I had no idea that it was that bad. When our friends told us they couldn't get home because the road was flooded, I had no idea that it was like that! Thankfully, our friends homes in the area were ok...they were in a little bit higher level and their homes weren't damaged. But there were many who were.....

When we went out today, this is what we did see. This is the road to get to our friends home. Normally there is a huge soccer field there.

If you look closely, you can see a rooftop back in the trees. Believe it or not, this had already gone down considerably when we were out there today. You could see where the water levels had been on the poles several feet higher than they were today.
This is not normally a lake. This is a road that goes to the right, along Hwy 40, and the huge soccer field is on the left with houses all back there.

If you look through the trees you can see two boats bringing people in.
This was a regular sight today.

This is another area of town....this area was hard hit. Most of the area is still blocked off but the water had receded some so we were able to see a little. If you look closely, you can see the water line left on the brick and the white post. The saddest thing when we were driving through this area was when through a window, you could see a lamp in a living room with a white lampshade and halfway up the lampshade was stained brown from the water that had flooded the house. This is the same area where they found a car floating upside down with two people still in it that didn't make it out. Also, in this neighborhood, were cars that had been left and they were covered with muddy residue of the water that had covered them, some just in the middle of the street.

And just beyond this barricade is another hard hit area of Bellevue. A lot of flooding and houses under water here. This is as close as we could get.

So you can see things have been a little crazy around here. The sense of community is really amazing though. Everyone just coming together to help others.

I did manage to squeeze out a layout a few days ago so I'll be sharing that soon! I used the April Magpie kit and I have to say, it turned out really cute!

Have a great day!
